Fished yesterday morning for about 4 hours. Caught 3 fish: 16, 18 and 21 1/2. The small fish was caught on a zebra midge, the other two on a beadhead mayfly nymph. I hooked three other fish. One was about 14, the second was probably bigger, and the third was truly a pig! It fought much harder than the 21 1/2 incher. It made a downstream run, an upstream run and then a run across stream. Unfortunately, it got into a snag a broke off my fly. Early in the morning, I got caught in the stream when they were raising the flows. When I started it was around 90 CFS. When I was standing in the middle of the stream, I saw more debris floating by and the flow seemed to be getting faster. Honestly, if I hadn't waded to shallower water when I did, I probably would have gotten wet trying to wade back to shore.
That happened to me at the Lower Stanislaus last week. I'm not sure how much they increased the flows but the water level in some places came up a foot or two. It's just a matter of time before that happens to me at Putah.
