Hit the creek today fished #1 with no hits, but saw a few risers. Moved up to the bridge for the first time in quite some time. I figured the water would be clearer up there. Found one spot that the fish were stacked up like cards. The fish were hitting midges size 22 and 24. Landed two fish and lost quite a few others. One fish was about 22-23 inches and fought like a bull. I thought it was foul hooked because when I applied side pressure it would hardly move. Finally landed it and the hook was in the jaw. One of the lost fish was on JTs drowned midge that he gave me a few months ago. The big fish and the others were on a midge emerger with a midge flash wing. It was fun even though I didn't land all the fish.
Met Ignacio who helped me take a photo who said he had hooked a fish in the same spot earlier in the day. Didn't see another person the whole day. Nice meeting you and thanks for the photo help.
There were some big bugs about size 12 that looked like flying spiders hatching today. I have seen them before, but I still have yet to catch one. They could be little yellow stones, but I am not sure. Saw Bono about a month ago on the creek when he was out on his moto and he grabbed a yellow sally across the creek, so I know at least a few of the big bugs are yellow sallys.
Sounds like a good day otter. I was out yesterday the 4th and hooked 3 good fish and landed 1 about 18 inches, This fish was really fat like you'd expect to see in the summer. Like Otter, I thought it may be fould hooked because of the fight, But nope, right in the lower lip. Hit a pattern I've had for months and never tried its a hogan brown fly called a better baetis. The creek has pretty much cleared up and is all fishable now.
I don't have a picture of the midge emerger, but it is easy to explain and tie. Black thread, 8/0 wrapped back to the bend on a Tiemco 2487. Wrap the thread forward with gaps for ribbing tie in about six to eight strands of midge flash just before the eye, whip finish and cut the midge flash to about 1/4 inch.
Last winter I posted about the most epic day of trout fishing i have ever had. I said fish were stacked up like cord wood at a certain access area. Then came the dozens of nasty pvt. messages about how I shouldn't post that type of info. I'm surprised Otter didnt have the same thing happen.
I remember that. I think the main difference was that Otter's post didn't come right before Super Bowl Sunday. Of course everybody had that day off, skipped the Super Bowl, and when they arrived on the creek found tons of people fishing that hole.

As most of you know there are several good areas to fish near the bridge, and it is usually very crowded. I was pretty careful not to say where the spot was and not to post a pic. I usually like to fish away from crowds, so I usually am crawling through bushes and poison oak a little lower on the creek. I was up there yesterday and drove up to the bridge to check out the crowd, and there was no one fishing the spot. I usually don't fish the same areas back to back just to give the fish a break, so I didn't fish it again. Cole was up there giving me some tips for the Russian. Thanks Cole for the green caddis they worked great!!!
