Yuba River 3/2/08

Made it out to the Yuba Sunday for a much anticipated fishing trip.  Fished with a good buddy in from London.  We started below the 20 bridge and fished up stream for several miles.

Early on looked to be a good day, despite the wind storm buffeting us.  My buddy hooked up with a nice 20 inch bow in the first hour, caught on a Hogan's S&M nymph.

An hour later, I landed two 14 inch bows on a green fox poopah - and then it was done.  No more bites, no more fish for the next six hours.

Couple risers at dusk, but no takers.

Green water (1-2 foot vis), medium flow.

UNBELIEVABLE wind.  20-40 mph gusts all day.

Sounds like a great day considering the conditions. I was going to float it today with a friend but we called it off with the 40mph+ gusts. Rowing through that would have been horrible especially with how exposed the Yuba is.

How were the crowds? And were there any skwalas coming off?

Above the 20 bridge I saw about 10 other anglers.

I saw 3-4 skwalas all day.  Looks like they're done.

Although I saw no skwalas last week when I fished the yuba but still managed to hook a few fish on em. Everytime I have fished the yuba I've pretty much had the place to myself, even on weekends. Theres so many places to fish, crowds dont matter much. Its a great river, Just would like to have better luck on it.

well cappy, i think next time we should just stay in the area that we was at towards the end of the day, we always have great luck there. and if you really read the water where we cross there is some nice ledges on that one side of the river where i saw that fish surface. i think i might take a full trip up there next week. maybe weds or friday, if someone wants to go i got room in the camaro for one. if you are interested in going pm me and we can go from there.

oh ya it aint much but picked up a pair of hodgeman neos for stupid cheap today, brand new never worn for 30 bucks, he still had the receipt from sportsmans for 65 bucks. ya they are neos, but we all know about my small leaks in my old ones that i cant seem to fix. it also helps me with gettin the girlfriend out into the water. she has been wanting to get out there with me do some steelhead fishing, but without waders it wasnt gonna happen, well now that she has a new pair she is looking foward to gettin out there very soon. but i think i need to make sure they dont leak first. hahaha.

again if you would like to hit the yuba up with me next week let me know. shoot me a pm
