Had a decent weekend on the East Walker. Real slow in the AM but picked up in the PM. Two fish at 10 and then nothing till 3:30 where it then was a take down every cast. Landed 20 fish from then til 5:00.
That is some skinny water, man. Nice work. I want to go out there so bad, but man its far from me....I'm going to try to make it when the flows are up.
Thanks for the welcome guys. I was fishing a private ranch on the Nevada side. It is such awesome country out there. I know its far but well worth it. Fished the public waters as well and didnt do too hot. My buddy Victor caught a nice one on a zebra midge and a 14" on a zwing caddis.
Not the best photos but that one was 19" and thick. My Dad talked with a guy who caught 3 browns on a wooly bugger one that was strecthing 25", wish i could of seen that one.
Huntindux...did you stay in Bridgeport or on the private ranch? I've fished the area near the June Lakes Loop as well as Lundy Lake. Supposedly, the Walker is one of the best places to catch Browns. I hear in Bridgeport they have a "Brown Baggers' Club" where to join you gotta catch one over 9 lbs. Pretty area. If you haven't checked out the area when there is less snow, the Bodie ghost town is pretty cool to see. JW
Angry, I actually stayed in the town of Walker at a little motel along 395 called the Andruss motel. I know the owners pretty well and it is an awesome place to stay in the summer. They love fisherman there and cater to them very well. They have a pool, ping pong table, 2 horseshoe pits, 4 bar b ques and pets are welcome. And then again Topaz Lodge is only 20 min away if you get a wild hair up your ass to gamble. I think next time that I am going to fish the East Walker I will be staying in Bridgeport just because of the gas used to drive 40 miles back and forth is a little excessive. Ecspecialy if you are fishing both days on a weekend. There are gigantic browns in that river. If you go to Kens Sporting Goods web site they have some awesome photos on there of some pigs caught there and out of Bridgeport Resevoir.
Yeah well I was thinking about hitting Putah this weekend by I think my work might put the kybosh on things. So next weekend heading to the snow with my pups and hopefully creep my ay up to the little Truckee and then the following weekend its back to the East Walker. Does any one know the clearity on Putah any ways?
I made a 5 day trip last summer to fish all of the walker rivers, east west and little walker. I fished the east walker from the dam down a few miles and it is freakin packed with browns, But they weren't easy to catch, The surrouinding area is awesome, It was a great trip ! I stayed in a cool little resort in colville called meadow cliffs resort, Nice to come back to a hot shower and warm bed after a day of fishing. It was worth every minute of the 6 hour drive to get there. I really wanted to try and fish the pvt. waters on the neveda side but i didnt have a neveda fishing license. This years first eastern sierra trip is gonna be the owens river but really hope to get a chance at the east walker again. Oh and watch for rattlesnakes over there.
