Anybody have a better ideas out there for glue that works for attaching San Juan Worm bodies to the hook? I tie them the traditional way by giving one side of the worm a couple wraps, moving forward with the thread on the shank to the eye, and then wrapping a couple more on the front of the worm. I was using just head cement for the chenille to the hook shank, but the middle of the worm comes off after a couple dips in the water...JW
Yeah, I was looking at some other pictures on the web and might just sparsely spiral wrap the thread all the way up to the final tie-off point. I thought about doing this before, but thought it might make the worm body look smaller. Then I saw the pics...not bad. JW
A light coat of superglue on the top of the shank works, but you have to work quickly and get the chenille positioned where you want it the first time. The glue dries dull, so you want it just on the underside. Tie in as usual. Andy Burk has an article in the Feb 2008 California Fly FIsher magazine. He uses superglue extensively in his flies (as well as head cement)-he often coats the thread to finish the head tie off, instead of a whip finish knot, he wraps the glue coated thread and trims the tag. I can attest that it makes a durable "knot". I have used it to attach small pieces of tinsel or antron when adding wings to size 22 and 24 hooks and to secure egg patterns on the shank.
