�� i member when i first started fly fishing..i was fishing a lake on the shore and i got a fly stuck on my back...u no the place??? WHERE U CANT REACH...felt like a idot/ fool / a-- hole...had to ask a passerby for help....i think thats when i went and took some lessons....

I've hooked myself twice really, really good. Once in the arm and buried the hook up past the curve of the shank. The second time was in wind and got lodged in my head right behind my ear, the hook was barbed! I had my buddy clip the line and left it there all day until we were finished. Back at the truck we needed pliers to pop the hook the rest of the way through past the barb so he could cut the hook to get it out...talk about PAIN! There was a definite POP as it broke through the skin. I have a pic of that one somewhere. Ever since barbless EVERYWHERE I fish!

I had a very bad experience last season involving a dog, loose line, and a #8 stonefly nymph buried into the muscle in my finger. I spent the better part of an hour working the hook around until I could just barely get the point out past the barb, which I hadn't crimped yet of course!!! I was finally able to snap the point and barb off the hook with some forceps and back it out. I learned a very valuable lesson that day about leaving loose line on the ground, especially around animals!!! The silver lining is that my friend and I went on to beat the fish up that day so after it was all said and done I really didn't care about a minor "flesh wound".

My sunglasses already had saved my eyes a few times when I hooked myself pretty good one time. Just a really bad cast that landed�# 6 or 8 bugger in my knee cap, past the barb (I was wet wading, wearing shorts). I wish I had tought of pushing it futher so�point and barb�pop out and cutting the shank...�but I didn't. So I�proceeded to pull against the barb until�the hook comes out.�Didn't work the first few times I tried, the barb was just pulling the thick skin on my knee... Scary the amount of force it needed to come out. And the steady flow of blood for quite a while...�No need to say I really believe�that barbless hurt less the fish.

Welcome to the message board.� I think we've all been in that guy's (and your) shoes.� I remember a couple of years ago running into Brian Clemens on his first trip to Putah Creek.� You're not alone.
