sorry to bring more bad news but there may be NO commercial salmon fishing in the state of California. That is right no or an extreamly regulated/restricted season. This is all due to a dicline in salmon from the deversion of water from the delta to s. cali.

As much as I want to blame all the water diversions for ruining the fisheries here in CA, it is not entirely their fault. Sure they have screwed up a lot of our salmon run, but the poor salmon run is not just here, it was up and down the coast. I think a lot of it has to with the very poor ocean conditions off the entire Pacific coast. We've had almost no upwelling the last few years. No upwelling means no food for the salmon, so they either die or head up north.

What's scarier is the almost non-existent return of jack salmon which is usually a good indicator of the run size in the next few years. I think the jack run was 2,000 where normal is near 50,000 jacks. Thats 25x less than what it should be while our adult run this year was only about 3x less than normal.
