Today was a awesome day for me. Started at around 8 in the morning and caught a nice 20 inch or bigger native rainbow. Super cool for first trout fly fishing. Had a bunch of followers, but no more takers. I was really pumped though. I was using a olive woolybugger. But now I know what I need to get: new waders, wading boots, vest, gloves, and more flies. No pics, but man was that thing beautiful. Put up a good fight too.

Right on Frog.  You will keep the mental pic of that fish forever, you know.  I snap back to lots moments I have no pics of.  You can probably still see that fish in your head especially a nice one like that.

Way to go Frog!  Good stuff, isn't it? Takes lots of folks, (I was one) months to be able to say what you just did!

Thanks guys. I am addicted big time to fly fishing. It brings a whole new level of excitement to catching fish. It was awesome seeing the fish take my fly. I was just twitching it, when all of a sudden a creature from the deep grabs my fly, and the battle was on. I was limited to using only a wooly bugger though since that is pretty much all the flies I got right now. Still working on building my fly collection. I am pretty sure I saw some spawning trout. I sat and watching them for a while. Pretty interesting.

Well my whole life is pretty much revolving around fishing. I sold all my RC cars, and starting to not enjoy my xbox 360. Haha, but its a good sickness. Keeps me out of doing illegal stuff like other teenagers are doing.

Next you'll be selling your xbox 360 to buy a fly tying vise.  Once you start tying your own flies, it's all over.

I know the feeling! I used to race high end RC hydroplane boats. When I didn't have the time anymore dedicated to racing I sold everything and upgraded my equipment and bought 2 Sage rods. The boats were too expensive to just have sit in the garage. I miss racing them sometimes!

Nice boat! I thought about getting a boat, but never have. I have had over 20 Rc's so far. Here are just some:

I wish every single one of them, but I know I will get back into them some time.

Congratulations Frog--I recall my first trout/fish on a fly. Fishing Clarks Fork with a six weight (Please, no BC jokes), trying to keep a drag-free drift, only to swing and have my caddis submerge and find a little cookie-cut planter. Hey, it worked once, tried again, and again for three planters in a couple of casts. Man, I was on top of the world...Enjoy the addiction!

Hey Captian, ever ride Downieville? Every time I've been up there I'm practically falling off the trail trying to ride and look for fish in the creeks at the same time. Haven't been up in a while but this summer I'd like to check out Haypress, Lavezolla and the other feeder creeks, along with some new sections of the North Yuba. I don't expect anything big up there, but its a very cool place to hang out for a weekend.

I havent ridin in over a year, No i have never did the downieville ride. I defenitly would like to spend a day or 2 on lavazolla creek. Frog, the clark fork i am refering to is right in your backyard near sonora pass. Brookies all day long, about 6 to 12 inchers but its a blast. Key is with any place in the sierras is to get away from the easy access area's, I aint no fly fishin guru or nothin but get away from the easy access area's ! Thats all it takes.

That North Fork Yuba drainage is still a great unknown to many fly fishers.  With the North Fork, Goodyear's Creek, Pauley, Lavezzola, Downie, Haypress and Butcher Ranch Creek you get some great stuff.  I hit alot of stream and rivers last season but without a doubt the best day of the season was a fall day on the North Fork.  It was one of those magical days, hits or fish on almost every cast, and consistant size that I wasn't used to . . .many in the 11"-15" range.  It would not be exagerating to say it was a 30+ fish day.  Of course, we've all seen the other end up there too.  On this day I did not see one other person fishing the river the whole day.

Afterwords there's a great steakhouse in Downieville, the Grubsteak and who can pass up the St. Charles for sor something to wash that steak down with afterwords.  When you guys hit it, and if you need another, think of me.

The only fishing trip up to the North Fork drainage this year was with an army of neices, nephews, and their cousins to some still water bait fishing at Packer Lake. It may have been hatchery fish and bait, but it was my proudest outing of the year - every kid caught a fish, and the older ones are getting primed to learn how to fly fish. It's a blast to take them out, I can't wait until the day where they're ready for the really cool stuff, that means I get to take them AND fish cool stuff too!

Captain,

Later on in the trip I did...not much bend put on that rod! I later figured out/found out where I caught those first three is one of the locations for the plant truck. Being my first fish on a fly, planter, little wild guy...it didn't matter!!! I'm with you about that area--can't wait to hit it with my new 3 wt. Not to mention my older son wants to go back, also!
