well second time out on the creek, and another day that i can complain, got there bright and early as usual, and it started raining cats and dogs, so i decided to chill in the car till it let up a little bit, so finally about 7:35 if finally stop pooring down and was just a misty sprinkle. it was a gorgous morning, between the misty rain and the fog filled mountains around me. ot seriously look like a painted picture. anyways got down to the water, and it was muddy, really muddy, and flowing pretty good too. but we all know that aint gonna stop me. so threw on my big indicator, 2 shot, and went to town, used my new putah set up, fished it for about 30 mins, with nothin, and something told me to move, get out of the big pools and fish tail outs, you know between 2-4 ft of water, thinking that the fish will have a better opportunity to see my delicious platter that i have to offer them. so moved out of my fav spot down to some tail out water, fished my new go to set up for about 10 mins, the for some reason i wanted to see what my flys looked like in the water, pulled it up near me and could barely see my flys, so i just recently got some flys, not going to mention what they are, but the are used greatly through streams rivers and creeks, they are easily seen, and fish love them, but what was odd is that normally on putah you use size 16-18s, not me and not that day, i was using a size 10.
anyways put one one, with 2 shot, shortened my leader with indicator and first cast i got freaking hammered, and this fish took off like a rocket, with a nice 5min fight, finally got to land this nice 20" male, great color and was spawned out, keep him in the shallows, took a quick pic, and back in the current, held him there for about 5 mins, he wanted to go right away but i didnt let him, let him chill in the current for a good 5 mins to make sure he was good to go.
for the next 30 mins i fished the same run with the same fly, and missed 3 fish. then my buddy showed up and i gave him the spot for about 30 mins. he didnt have any luck. so we moved to a few different other spots that i thought would produce. with no luck. so then back to the tail out we went.
my buddy gave me first run through, and so i went at it, with the same fly in the same run, with the same everything, and hooked 3 more fish withing 10 mins of fishing that spot, my buddy saw all the fish and said they was all between 18-22"s, i never saw them, they all took off pretty quick but he could see them well where he was standing.
well all the fish that i lost all came un buttoned due to had shakes, all the fish that i had on did it, i did manage to land 1 out of 7, but i tell you want this head shakes where crazy hard, almost like steelhead and salmon head shake, vigorous and very large back and forth motion.
well started out with 6 of these new flies and now only have one left. i will be picking up more and hope to have them for my putah trip next week, and if i dont go to putah, i know they will work on the american.
good luck and tight lines. dont let the muddy water keep you home

Great report Brian. Muddy water is not always a killer-it is when the flows are so high that there is too much water for the fish (and you) to deal with. Trout have greater visual acuity in water than people-its been estimated that they can see 6 times as far in a water column as we can, looking straight ahead. So muddy water is not necessarily the same to them visually. Add their sonar and super nose, they can do quite well in the mud. Once on the Cimarron River in NM, my son-in-law and I caught a ton of fish on dry flies (!) in water the same color as PC. I think what made the difference was the flow was at a normal level and the temp of the water was not exceptionally cold. They didn't take in fast water, but the holes and runs where the flow was moderate was gang busters.
thats nice to know thanks steve. well dont know what ill be doing next friday, told wyteurp that we would get together, either on putah or the american. but either way ill be in the water fishing.

Nice Brian. Heres my report for today, Water is off color, used larger fly's today, Was able to hook a few fish, I think a san juan may work right now.
Way to make it happen! I fished yesterday and threw some san juan's, but no luck. The water was high and very off color, but what the hell, you can't always fish under perfect conditions. Part of fly fishing is making it happen under all conditions.
My weekend schedule is a guy's dream. Friday night Warriors game, Saturday golf tournament, Sunday/ Monday boys train trip for gambling/ partying run to Reno. At home Friday morning, what the hell, go fish Putah for 3-4 hours? Nothing else better to do. Obviously had to do the hard sell with Mrs. for that one, but mission accomplished. Who wants to look at my ugly mug all day anyways? My instructional video on how to pull this off will be for sale soon.
Fishing was VERY slow to sat the least, but it was fishing.
