feather river report

Fished the feather river with a good friend thursday..only a few other people past thru all day.Far cry from the huge crowds on the weekends...A typical weekend this time of the year you have guys and gals ( just for you fly girl ) standing 10 ft a part from one another...people walking thru the slots you are fishing and guys with spin rigs casting all the way across the river...weekends suck.way to many people for such a little chunck of water...
Hooked up on 10 steelhead, 11 if you count the one I hooked twice...my buddy had 6 fish and kicked my butt with the largest of the day...got a chance to  see my backing on 2 of the runs ....most of the fish were caught on hand painted beads .A few fish were fooled with a #12 copper john and a #12 f/b pt.
Broke a rod trying to land one of the fish. long leader, big fish.Good thing it was a sage rod...pretty much my fault it broke but it sounded cool when it snapped...
who want to go sunday..more the merry 'er I guess...

What size/color beads did you find most effective?

We fished the low flow on opening day and saw only three other people  in the area we were in . Between the two of us  we had 8 hook ups with 5 landed, the biggest being 16". We also fished on the 5th, landed 3 fish. Both days the fishing was slow after 10 am. Definatly an underrated fishery.
