First off I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi. I have fished Putah for about 5 or 6 years now, only the last year as a fly fisherman though.
Unfortunately, I'm posting for the first time to give warning to everyone else. I fished the creek this past Sunday between access 2 and 3 from about 9-1 and when I got back to my car my back window was smashed in. Nothing was taken...so I don't know if this was a botched robbery or just an act of vandalism. Nothing was in the car anyways....I guess next time I might just leave the window open!!! Just thought I should let everyone know...since I have read all of your warnings in the past.
As far as the fishing went....it wasn't so much better. It was much tougher for me than the past weekend. It didn't help that I got snagged up within about 5 minutes and lost what had been my go to the past few weekends (zebra midge w/a red wd40 dropper).....just my luck I hadn't checked my fly box lately and that was it for that setup. I ended up hooking one 12-13" native, but spent a lot of the day scrambling to find another setup or just watching some of those beautiful spawners.
Sorry to hear that JMO32. I've read postings on the river, and here on the board, of that occurring from time to time but have never experienced it myself. Thanks for the warning.
JMO32 welcome to the board but man that sucks. I was on the creek sunday as well and left at noon when driving past I saw your window was already smashed but nobody was around. I was surprised to see that right there. I figured there must of been an extra rod sitting there or something was visible that someone thought was worth taking. But you said you had nothing in there? was there an empty rod case? I think thieves sometimes hope for an extra rod in the case. All I know is that i leave nothing in the vehicle and hope for the best when I get back.
Welcome to the board. That's unfortunate, sorry to hear that. You would think as many trucks parked on the side of the road the weekends are seeing now that nobody would do that. Don't let that stop you from fishing the creek though. There's lots of of out there and the chances of anyone doing ANYTHING sketchy right now is slim. See you out there.
I can really feel your pain on this one. My van was broken into twice last year, in February and again in May. The first time they stole my laptop and shoes. After the second time I now leave my car unlocked, often with the windows down, and leave nothing of value in it. The CHP actually suggested that approach. It really puts a damper on fishing when things like this happen. Both of my break-ins were at access 5.
Nice to hear from a few of you...thanks for the comments. The most bothersome part is that after thinking about it for a bit I think it might have been just a pure act of vandalism. I had a few items that could have been stolen right out of the back (CD case + extra reel) but nothing was touched. I have been tempted to just leave everything open, but then I worry that would make it even easier for someone to go in and rip out my cd player or something.
Oh well, I'll keep hitting up Putah....just with an extra careful eye out for everybodys sake. I wouldn't mind catching one of these guys and showing them how my window felt though.
I think maybe it happens alot at #4 and #5 becuase anyone fishing there is gonna far enough from there car to not see or hear anything. Usually if there lookin to take stuff your glove box and center console will still be open and have been gone thourgh.
