I saw ya up there Darra, I was upstream from ya a bit in the afternoon. You cast a fly rod very well ! That spot you were fishing is ok sometimes but if you work upstream from there and have alot of patience (due to very slow drifts) you can have some really good luck.
i thought i saw your car. it's the volvo right? i had an awsome day, THREE strikes. all on a zebra midge. i missed all of them. I'm getting closer to the hog of my dreams. some people think this is funny, but i'm the one that is teaching my dad to fish, not visa-versa. he makes a great fishing partner. i started by access 1, my dad got a nibble on a bwo size24 dry fly. then we moved on to my secrate spot, but we couldn't get there ( got flooded- no waders on). finnaly i went to where captain saw me. A GREAT day
Lots of odd interaction today. Helped a lost hiker, cross the creek. Had a guy wade up a quiet stretch and cast into the lower reach of my drift. Dude had more gray hair than me. I just said, "really"? He moved on.
If either of you read this board ... no foul guys, just made for an odd day.
I fished up into some good water. Hooked 2, none to hand. One was another, great the one that got away story. Seems like I'm good for one of those, every 3rd or 4th outting. This guy would have been my new personal best by a mile. Big, heavy, strong, fast. This time I got a good look, absolutely beautiful.
I know it sounds crazy, but when I got a good look, the thought crossed my mind, "my nets not big enough" ... yikes it was big ...I'll get one of these guys to hand someday! At least I don't shake any more, now I just talk to 'em.
Knots and rig held, probably lost set about 3 minutes into it. I was proud of myself on this one, I was actually composed enough, and had room to walk the bank to keep up with him a bit. Still couldn't win the fight.
That made up for all the flies I lost today. Just one of those days. Was still fantastic to be out, even though it was slow.
Cheers guys,
