nice to meet both of ya, captain and Emerger. even with 5 people wishing me good luck today i got SKUNKED (but no surprise. i've only caught one fish on the putah). i started at my favorite quote "crappy day" spot. i saw 12 fish. i started fishing, then i saw a hen digging a hole, so i stoped and watched for 15 minutes. i also saw a weird albino trout, like the one jt was talkin' about. it stuck out like a sore thumb. next, my mom was kind enough to drive me up to the bridge. i saw captain and emerger. i fished from the gravel bar until two bait dunkers arrived. i asked, "what kinda bait you usin?'" they said POWERBAIT. i informed them it was illegal and they could be fined a large some of $$$. they played the BS saying, " BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW!" after that i went down to the lower side of the bridge and fell. i didn't get a lot of water in my waders. i came back 15 minutes later with a dry t shirt and jacket. there was an older man sitting in one of my favorite spots. he caught 5 fish. WHAT A HOG!! as soon as i started leaving, he left. i hope to get out there next sunday.
hey cappy did we see this pig last week, had a big bright pink sign on its back blinking
DAARAPIG.
like those blinkin belt buckles.
hahaha.
give it time daara trust me. it took me a few times out but i got to chat with the right people right away and i did pretty darn well for a rookie, and still being a rookie on this creek i am doing very well. only been fishing it since the beginnin of august, and can say that i first few times out i missed many large 20+ inch fish and didnt land really any fish what so ever. you got to fish with cappy and emerger they know their stuff, i fish with cappy all the time. thats my go to guy. everyone has a go to fly right well why not a go to fly fisherman. anyways there are many knowledgable putah peeps on this board dont be afraid to ask

It was nice to meet you Daara. Captain and I ran into those same two bait guys and I told them the same thing. No surprise, I got the same response as you. And they STILL continued to bait up. Fools.
I'll most likely be out there this sunday too Daraa. Maybe I can help ya catch a fish if I see ya.Thats great of your mom to take you to putah for some fly fishing.

Keep after em Daara! I just started fishin Putah in August. Caught a few planters under 12" first month. Just started getting the feel of it, and had to adjust to new flows.
I had hit some "mystery meat" ... unseen bigguns, but nothing to write home about.
I had the good fortune to hook up with BC(brian clemens) and Cappy after the Creek Clean up, what I learned spending the afternoon with them was not what you'd expect. The spot, yah, that was ok, but more important how to approach a piece of water.
Trial and error, trying the same spot under different conditions has helped me.
3 times in the last month, I've hooked fish so powerful they just ran away from me before I even got a look! Once ... no kidding ... way back in there ... in a spot you'd NEVER expect I hit a fish so big, strong and fast that I was shaking and had to quit for a minute when it came undone ... it was amazing ...again, never saw it.
You'll get it brother ... your starting much earlier than I did ... more power to you!
I know Tam, and MV pretty well, I've worked, and still have business over that way regularly. Strawberry and CM, too. Used to ride up the old railroad grade, from E. Blithdale to the summit, before family life made me soft in the middle. I drive about an hour, each way from Contra Costa County everytime I fish Putah ... its worth it, skunk or not.
Keep at em! Ed (Lahontan)

thanks lahontan. i'm trying to get up there as much as possible. i agree it would be great if i could go out and learn with the experts. i'm gonna try to haul my ashes up their this weekend.
What fly's have you been using daara, and what sizes ? Are you getting drag free drifts ? Are you experementing with depth changes ? I'd like to see this youngster hook a putah hawg.
i try pt's, zebra midges(18,20,22), disco midges(22), fox pupa(18), wooly biggers(12,10) and bwo's(22,24) usually. i try depth ranging from 6 inches to 2.5 feet. as for grag free drifts, i really try to get as many as possible. i also try a bunch of other flies that havn't come to mind. i try to tie some of my own to (buggers, elk hair caddis, rebels, and pt's)
