I snuck out of lab early again today. I made it up to the creek about 4PM and fished for a little over an hour. The fish were doing a lot of feeding in the upper half of the water column which made it easy to get to the fish. I landed quite a few fish and hooked into many more. The biggest to net was 15", but the biggest hooked were definitely bigger. Two of them passed the 20" mark. Hot flies of the evening were a #16 tan Fox Poopah, a #20 rusty spinner, and a #24 drowned midge. I've used my 3wt the last couple of times out to the creek. I got to hear the new reel sing today. It was a total blast!

Hey JT...sounds like you had some fun...can you suggest a spot..I ususlly fish up by the resort since I am a member...the water is slow and low....Its been kinda slow for me..need a fix...Thanks
The bigger fish are holding in deeper water right now. There are tons of smaller fish in the shallow areas, but the big fish don't feel very secure in these areas. I apologize that I can't suggest specific areas. If I do I won't be able to fish my favorite holes next time I go out.

I got a Teton Tioga #4. I already had a #6 for my 5wt. I really liked that one, so I got another one. You can't get a reel that good for the price. Sure, there are better reels, but not at that price.

I guess the Teton Tioga has grown on me. At first, I didn't like how the rim of the spool wasn't exposed as much as other reels. I like to tap the rim (instead of using the handle) to reel in quicker when I have a lot of slack in my hands or when a fish runs straight at me. You can reel in a lot quicker this way. But I've since dropped the reel, fallen on it, and it still works like the day I got it. It's a well-built reel. I had to change my style of fighting fish a little, but I'm getting used to it now.

The tioga is a workhorse. My buddy used to tell me the Teton rep would show them the durability of it by going outside and throwing the reel onto concrete. Literally throwing it like a freaking baseball.
They are tough reels. A tad on the heavy side, but tough and lifetime warranty. And made in CA.
I have a teton 2. Excellent reel and doesnt mind getting slammed on the rocks when I have to throw my rod.. =P The 3 wt is perfect for putah creek. Its never been "not enough" for the pigs in there for me.
Excellent report though. I havent hit the creek in a long time, but a recent "change in jobs" has freed up a lot of time. Ill see you guys on the water.
