Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rick, I've been fly fishing for many years, but have never been to Putah Creek. I usually head to one of the Stanislaus or Tuolumne Forks, however, I'm interested in trying something new.
I've been reading here and there on this forum for a while, but never spoke up. I'm hoping to get out on the river in the next month or so. I've read that the flows are coming down and hope that I didn't miss the best opportunities of the year. :(
Anyway, just wanted to say "hi"! Hopefully before I get out there, I can come back and get some advice where a first time visitor can go.
Welcome aboard, FlyMonkey. If you've fished the Lower Stan quite a bit you should do well on Putah. In my experience, they seem a lot alike. You missed the best flows on the creek, in my opinion. The water is low and the fish are spooked more easily, but they are still catchable.

Welcome FM...there's still some nice hidey holes on the creek. The best flows are long gone and the fish are sorting out the nicest places to hang but with a 16 PT Flashback and some good water reading you should get a few.
Hi guys. Thanks for the welcome. Hmm. sounds like I'm a little late to the Putah party (low water levels). I'll probably end up going in the next few weeks anyway just to check it out.
Out of curiosity, when do the levels go back up to a "good" level?
Hey FlyMonkey welcome, and as for good flows maybe next sept/oct. No hopefully with some luck we'll get a little more water coming down soon, but it wont be much as flows will stay low for the winter. The flows change throughout the year low in the winter high in the summer, most people like the in between stages of these flows which dont last long. You basically need to gain experience with all the different water levels in all the different spots to catch fish ALL year long. And if the lake spills over the glory hole thats most likely a blowout but that will take a ton of rain which I really hope we get.
