Regulations about fishing near the dam.

Does anyone know the regulations about fishing as you approach the dam?  I was there a few weeks ago in my float tube and I often fish the area between the overanging power line and as close as where the chain-link fence can be seen on the opposite side where I'm sure it says NO TRESSPASSING.  A couple of guys I saw using bait and carrying about 8 fish on a stringer said that they got a $400 fine for fishing down on the dam side of that power line but I couldn't see anything posted about it.  They said it wad the water district official that gave them the fine and that it had to do with acts of terrorism because they don't want anyone to approach and blow up the dam.
I'd really like to stay ouy of trouble but I like to fish that section and I'm not that close to the dam. Let me know if any of you know the regs about this.

I haven't heard anything about that, I assume if that was the case then the security fence gate would be locked wich it never is. Any ways i don't fish that far up, hard to get a good drift with the low flows.

I've floated that section a few times and never had any problems.  I could see where it might be terrorism issue, though.  A couple of years ago I was fishing right below the bridge.  I had waded out to the big rock when the flows were about 600 cfs.  This airplane flew straight up the canyon towards the dam.  I though for sure he was going to hit it.  I just stood there thinking, "I'm a dead man."  In those flows I couldn't have gotten out of the water before a wall of water would have hit me.  Needless to say, he didn't hit it, but it sure put a scare into me.

The gate used to be locked.  I'm sure somone just cut the lock off.  People are always going up there to skate/bike the Glory Hole (and of course fish).

wow! I saw one of those to. it was a red, white and blue F-18 flying about 1,00 feet or less above the bridge area heading right for the dam. It scared the living hell out of me.but i caught a fat 20 inch pig that day too, so it may be a sign of good luck.

I'd let those planes scare me everyday if it meant I could catch a 20"er.  Daara, it's good to hear from you again.  I haven't heard from you in a while.

Yes you will get a fine for going past the gate....it was put into effect after 9/11.....everyone does it and only a few have been fined....It will not matter if your in the water or on the bank..the really high flow we had a few years back(new years ) ripped the sign off the fence at the lower water level...they took the lock off for a clean up day and it never got put back...

Good stuff mx19.

I went scouting around up there a few weeks ago.
Before flows dropped it has a real strange look to it up in there.

Didn't even occur to me that I was "out of bounds". Yeah sure, I
walked thru the gate, saw no sign, and passed a few of the skate/bike
crew on their way out. (they were cool).

That dam isn't the biggest, but it sure is impressive when your standing
at the bottom of that sucker. I'll pass on the aerial close calls, but the
20'er sure couldn't hurt!
