Now that the flows have been choked back, I am curious about how deep we should be fishing. It seems to me that fast water dictates that fish are either going to be at the seam of slow/fast water or right on the bottom behind a rock. With slower water the fish can be anywhere.
I've not fished this creek much in 6 years and wonder if anyone is catching fish near the surface, say in the top 2-3 feet of water of the deeper pools and seams. This year I've fished Putah 4 times and haven't seen the kind of surface or near surface activity that I used to see a while back. There have been a few rises here and there, but very little insect activity and even less fish activity. Most of the fish I've hooked have been on the bottom with a few caught on dry flies.
Thanks in advance for the advice I am sure is going to follow.
hey eric the reason for the way more than usual amounts of bwos was because of the rain,
the hatch alot more with cloud cover and rain, likewhat we say on friday

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
If you're lucky and catch a decent hatch, you can use dries, but for the most part I would fish deep. Especially in the low water, the fish want to hang too far off the bottom.
