hey wt do you know much about st croix, are they good rods, and also about their warranties, stating that its non transferable to a new buyer of the rod, and if thats true is there a way around it. i am tryin to get ahold of the guy i bought it from but so far no answer. huh funny how that works

St croix warranty is NON TRANSFEREABLE. I have never used one but there reputation is good. If the rod broke that easy something was wrong with it. I've broke many a fishing rods in my life, and most have fell victim to a car door. If you cant find the guy that sold it to you then i would just mail it in to st. croix, and hope for the best.� Make sure you ALWAYS store your rod in a case when not in use, And inspect it carefully often for any signs of cracks or chips. If you cannot get the rod replaced I'd possibly sell you a 6 weight fast action fenwick HMG rod, 8'6" two peice rod that has never ever been used. Price would be $120.00 and price is firm. Rod regulary sells for $189.00. When I bought this rod I accidently bought two online from cabale's, and never got around to sending one back.

I have a buddy who has a st. croix rod and he loves it, and the few times I have used it I though it was a good rod as well. Of course everyone is going to have their opinions, personly I am currently using a gloomis rod and love it ... although I am looking at Sage FLi as a travel rod.

As for the warranty I am not familar with St. Croix policy. I know Sage rods have lifetime warranties and when a buddy of mine broke his they were very nice to him. He had to deal with the company headquarters and not the store he bought it from. My guess about the warranity not being transferable to a new buyer of the rod would be that if you decided to sell the rod the new owner would not have the warranity, but I might be stating the obvious.

Good luck trying to get ahold of the seller.

thanks guys, and captain i will let you know about that rod, but gonna try to get this one fixed first, 8-6 is a lil short for me, even a 9 but i might have to take a look at it, looks like its back to the telepole again, hahaha. well i will keep tryin i also am on fishsniffer know which he is on, and can see if he has read my post or my emails. so ill give him some time, he seemed like a really good guy, i can judge people pretty darn well, he had a bad accident with a table saw, pretty bad accident, but like i said good guy, just not fly fishing anymore and also sold another set up for dirt cheap to another guy. well i will let you know how things go

Sorry to hear about your rod. I have two St. Croix rods and have had no problems. You should call St. Croix directly. Some rod manufacturers have a second buyer program for repairs and replacements, usually at a fairly reasonable price. I am not sure St. Croix has such a program, but its worth asking. For what its worth, I have found most fly fishing equipment companies, whether it be a reel manufacturer or clothing outfitter, will work with you even though your not the original buyer since they want to build customer loyalty.

great news, just got off the phone with him, he is gonna call st croix tomorrow and take care of this for me, and if for some reason i just dont want to wait for it to be fixed, which from what he said they will either say no being how old it is or replace it with a new rod which would be a step up to an avis, which aint bad, but if i dont want to deal with the wait he will give me my 140 back, and i can get something else

anyone got a really nice set up for 140-160, just so i can have a back up.

what do you guys think i should do, ofcourse wait until i hear from him tomorrow, but say he says they will replace it, should i do ahead and wait, ofcourse if they say no, then i am gettin my money back,

just wondering for you experts i dont know much about fly combos, now bass salmon musky walley smallmouth call me, but fly combos i dont know crap.

so your advise will be greatly appreciated, so after tomorrow say he says you will get a new st croix rod, an avis, so i get the new rod, then pay 50 for my new ross reel, or just say no i am good and get my 140 back

any suggestions

man i cant be any happier right now

Brian did you happen to find that rod on craigs list? The other day I saw the same rod on craigs list with reel for $140. Anyway, sorry about your luck. I fish with a 5 and 6 wt St Croix, I like them both. Even if you get an avid and pay for a reel, that is still a good deal, I think. Does line and backing come with the new reel? Some fly shops have a deal with a Sage 1200 reel that comes with line and backing for $80.00. I bought mine from www.flyfishusa.com, it arrived with RIO floating line. Hope you get a good deal after what happened.

Brian, I'm sorry to hear about the rod.� I've never heard of a rod breaking�midcast without a tree or rock involved.� There was definitely something wrong with it before you started casting.� If they'll replace it, go for it.� It may take some time, but you'll have a new rod.�

Brian: sorry to hear about you're mishap with you're rod but as stated by others I would send the rod back (and you are the original owner.....right? the answer would be yes) My first real fly rod was a St Croix and I loved it,in fact I read a study about 6 years ago that matched all of the most popular fly rods with all levels of flyfisherman and did a blind comparison.The St Croix rod fisnished a very strong first!Good luck. hey brian ..breaking a rod sucks....I got a story for ya..I was at the bottom of the staircase.(Bridge) I lost my whole rod, reel, fly box, sunglasses and desroyed my net diving in after a kid who was drowning...It all sank or drifted away...I feel your pain....

Just lie about being the original owner.� You are him.� My wife had the exact same rod replaced after snapping it in Colorado.� Every time I cast it I think man I only spent 170 bucks on this thing!�

hey thanks for the info, just got off the phone with dan at at croix, either gonna repair the broken spot on the rod or replace it with the reign series, to get the avid i would have to pay 110 for it

oh by the way the rod that i bought online line last night i was a lil wrong, its the redington red fly 2 9 ft 6wt 2 piece, i was lookin at a 5wt 4 peice but didnt get it, so thats what i got, so that will be like a 5wt due to the medium action, and who knows whats gonna happen with my st coix, either they fix it or i get a reign that is the same weight legth and peices,

oh by they way, yes it was the one on craigslist and also on fishsniffer.com,
and ill have to look into the sage1200, is that reel pretty good, does anyone out there have it or used it, i was thinkin a ross with backin and line for about 70-80 but if that sage is better then why not.

I have used a couple of different reels, never the sage1200, but I think a lot of it has to do with person taste.

Sage should stick to making rods and only rods. They make a super quality rod but their reels are lacking. For $100 you could get a Teton reel on ebay brand new.

i have multiple ross reels i like them alot there simple and fairly cheap i also like galvans and the orvis battenkill
