Burk also has a yellow jacket pattern. If you go to American flyfishing.com you can take a look. The fly appears to made from black and yellow dubbing and has feather wings. When I saw the yellow jacket swimming in the water it was disturbing the water quite a bit. It was like a turboprop underwater. I guess that is why the flies I have seen have a big brown hackle.
Sorry ya'll for not responding sooner but I've been fishing and hunting in Montana;Idaho and Wyoming.Ironically my biggest fish of the trip was a huge 24" brown on the Madison river caught on my yellowjacket fly, fished sumerged,I also caught a very nice rainbow on the same fly but that was the only two fish I caught on that pattern though.I did use it on the Firehole river as a dry and caught nothing, but I saw very few yellow jackets in the area. This fly really seems to work where yellow jacket prevail and doesn't work worth a squat in areas where these little critters do not exist or during the time of year when they are not around. As far as the availability of the fly is concerned I should know from Umpqua sometime within the next month if they will buy the pattern or not.And to be totally honest I probably will not sell the pattern myself because they are sort of hard to tie and they take me forever, sorry!
