Started this morning at about 7 a.m. Concentrated hard on high stickin pocket water. Hooked somewhere around 10 or 12 fish, landed probably half of em, setup that was working for me was a large bumblebee fly up top, size 14, and a #18 prince nymph below that was very bulky for its size. Also hooked a few on brown and red san juan worms. fish of the day was a fat 16 incher, one of the most colorful fish I have ever caught. Ended the day around 2 p.m. Downside is that I lost my one and only bumblebee fly that I got at ted fayes a few months ago on a trip to the upper sac. I been catching alot of fish at alot of different places on that fly, I knew it wasn't gonna last forever . I'll have to pickup a dozen or so when I'm up there in a few weeks. The weather was great and the creek flows are coming down nicely, opening up alot more water for wading.
Nice report Captain! I picked up some flies at the little store by the bridge that are called yellow jackets. I remember Bono talking about his secret yellow jacket fly. I haven't tried them yet, but from your report I will. I know you said bumblebee, but I'm thinking they look like yellow jackets. The yellow jacket fly I found has a black vernille body with yellow thread for ribbing. It has big black plastic eyes, a brown hackle and krystal flash wings. Was the bumblebee fly fat like a bumblebee?
I didn't think yellow jackets would be in the water for trout, but the other day a saw one go from shore into the water. It swam into the deeper water. The fish probably like them as they would equal about 100 midges or BWOs.
The one I was using has brown hackle, and brown tail tail, a yellow body that looks like yarn and black thread wrapped around it, the body is pretty bulky. It's been decent on putah but its deadly on sierra trout. Its the only fly I have tried were the fish hit it several times, like there attacking it. It must be the color that stimulates the fish. I also remember bono's post about the yellow jacket. It never hurts to try some new patterns.
Nice report, Captain. I fished the creek as well on Saturday. I broke out the waders since the water has dropped, so I could get to some new spots. There was no insect activity which made the fishing tough. I saw one mayfly, no caddis, and only a couple hundred midges as opposed to the thousands of midges I usually see. I hooked around ten fish, only landing one. The only fish landed took a #16 tan Fox Poopah. I had an 18"er to the net when it turned one more time and pulled the hook loose. He was fooled by a #16 olive Fox Poopah. After that, I had two break-offs in a row (only a couple of minutes apart). The fish must have wrapped my line around something because the tippet broke in the middle instead of at the knot. Both fish stopped in the middle of a run and the line just went slack. The first fish took a #18 micro mayfly, and the second one took a #24 black TOF midge.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Fished from 9 -3pm. Started Under the bridge by the dam. Fished for a couple of hours and got nothing. Caught alot of greenery. I was using my usual Putah rig, Indicator, Prince Nymph #16, and a #20 black zebra midge. I was having a hard time figuring out the distance of my indicator and the top fly and how much weight to use. I moved closer to the dam and met either JT or JL( sorry i can't remember what he told me, I remember a J) He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I saw him get one and loose one, and he told me what he was using, and i changed my set up accordinlgy. We moved even closer to the dam and fished for another hour and nothing. I finally went back to my sweet spot under the bridge again and hooked up with a hog! He jumped once and proceeded to swim around a rock where i lost him. I hooked up one more, 10-11 inches, which i finally landed. I watched a guy catch about 3 or 4 in like 15 minutes. He was standing on a rock in the middle of the river( good fisherman). Only landed one but still had a great day at Putah.
