A couple of friends and I made it out on Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Things started off fairly slow, or maybe I started off fairly slow, I missed three fish right off the bat. Irritating to say the least, anyway I was using a tan fox poopah to begin, after I missed the three fish it got real slow, then around 6pm I changed to a kind of chartreuse copper john. I caught two on this fly. We stayed out a little longer than I have on the creek before, and just at dusk the fish started rising all over the place, so of course I started to clambor around trying to get my set up changed over. I tied on a elk hare caddis and nailed two fish immediately, I forgot how fun it was to fish with dry flies, I probably missed a dozen fish but what a blast, the fish were going nuts. My friend who has been out with me maybe a half a dozen times finally caught a couple fish on Putah Creek, after blanking the last 6 or so trips, so that was a bonus. We stayed right up to the edge of darkness, where we still had enough light to get back to the truck, it's hard to leave when the fish are going bananas like that.
It sounds like you had a fun trip. Right on, bro. I'll be back at the end of the week. I'm going hunting with my dad in the morning. Let's hook up next week.
