hey everyone...ive been a member for a little bit now....I do a lot or reading but never put up a post before..I fish putah a lot .iam sure we have crossed paths many times over the years on the creek..I want to here your opinion.do you want to know where I fished ,what I used,what I put into the net and any other info I had for the day.Is it wrong to provide that info for others in regards to bettering there next time on the water.Or is it a secret and other anglers dont want us to share with others who enjoy fly fishing...I my self enjoy seeing other fly anglers getting into a fish or two.
I dont mind giving a hot fly to someone fishing near me whos struggling to find the go to pattern.I fish the creek two or three days a week, but never during or just after spawn and ever fish that sees my net return to the creek.I carry plastic bags and on my way out always fill one or two with trash ...i respect the sport the fish and your opinion.If sharing my days events bother anyone I will respect there wishes and not post my weeks results...Oh ya! I do my best to share the water and rights of the spin and bait guys ,but it's a bit fustrating at times and it would be great to see more group clean up days from those who really care about our little creek..I truely hope I did not offend anyone.

Welcome to the board.  I'm all for hearing your reports.  I love reading fishing reports.  I, personally, post reports for a few reasons: it gives people who can't fish a quick fix, it helps those who are new to the creek (and old) to figure out the secrets of Putah, and it serves as a fishing journal for me.  During the school year, I can't fish very much, and reading reports helps me make it through those difficult times.  I know there are others out there who are going through that right now.  I, personally, have learned a ton from others here and from the old board.  I hope I can contribute and pass on this information to others.  As far as a fishing journal goes, I like to look back at certain times of the year and see what I caught, what I caught it on, what the flows were like, etc. 

There was a debate a while back about posting fishing spots.  Most have decided to keep the locations out of the reports.  This is due to the short length of the creek and its close proximity to the bay area and Sacramento valley.  A description of fish caught, flies that were used, flows, weather, etc. is what most choose to write about.

I hope to read some of your reports soon.  See you on the water.

Your stuff sounds great to me. . .Let me get outta your way. On occasion when I have had it with
stingy fish, and if there is a bunch o' crap laying around, I'll spend the time to haul it out.
I'm glad to hear that someone else is inclined to do the same. Especially if those big honkin' 20+"ers aint grabbing that size 28 Tiemco 24938BL BWO spinner.

Hey mx19:Sounds like you're the kind of guy we like to see here on this forum and out on the creek,thanks for you're post.It's really up to you if you want to give up any info you may want to share,I personally keep some things semi-vague after all thats what people pay me for when I guide them so to post all of my secrets may not be the wisest thing for me to do.Anyway keep up the good work and welcome aboard! Hi MX19,

I recall recently getting really upset after visiting another local fly fishing forum where I would see people posting photos of all the fish they caught in really beautiful areas.  However, the poster asked people not to identify the location if they knew of it.  First, I thought telling other to not identify the location was disrespectful to the rest of the forum members....I mean every single person I have met fly fishing has been very respectful to both other anglers and the environment.  Then, I felt like it was just out right gloating...as if "look at me and all the fish I caught, and your not worthy".  I basically thought it was BS. 

All that said, my attitude about disclosing locations has changed.  As luck would have it, I had a conversation about this issue with couple of fellas at Putah recently.  As I learned most people don't want to disclose hot-spots at Putah because: a) good summer locations are hard to come due to changing flows; b) the creek is not all that big so angling pressure is quite high; and c) the number of bait anglers taking over-limits and large wild fish, as well as the trash they leave behind.  I now understand the reasoning behind the secrecy and I respect it.

      I agree just be vague with the location and if you have a huge day where you catch 20 to 30 fish  DO NOT POST IT!!!  Just say the fishing was very good.  Last year I was fishing Putah once or twice a week during the week.  There was fishing pressure but it was manageable.  One day someone posted that they had caught tons of fish and they were just stacked in there.  I happened to be fishing the next day after this report and it was packed.  There was a car in every turnout and someone fishing in every hole I wanted to fish.  Putah is just to small to handle that pressure.   Good luck.

That's a tender area for some people. For me I really don't care when it comes to Putah. That sounds harsh but it's one hour from Sac, one hour from the bay area. It's only 4 miles long. Half of that is flawater. Are there really any secret spots left there? When someone asks what fly you caught a fish on its sort of beating a dead horse. There was practically a nymph clinic put on here in the last two weeks. If you're still asking questions then Putah will give you one helluva day in court. I love meeting new people, cracking open the fly boxes and doing some trading around. Putah is a place, I think you should fish and ask questions later. Gain some knowledge then figure out why this or that doesn't work. It's hard and can be frustrating but when you whack some fish your hooked.
