I just picked up  9wt St Croix and would like to try for some river run salmon this fall. I have never fly fished for salmon. I have had good luck with a spin rod in hte past but have been converted to fly fishing. I use to use a #6 hook with roe yarn tied to it. I was thinking of something like that.  Also would sinking line be better or floating? I also have a shooting line I use for strypers.  If someone could recomend some salmon patterns for the American and Sacramento rivers I would appreciate it. The fall run should kick into gear soon and I want to be ready.
