Fished the creek from 11-4 and it was on. landed 3 big ones another acrobatic 17"er and a bunch of small ones. Lost 3 other big ones 2 of which gave me the violent head shakes right from the start and the other one i had on for a while but we were pulling a little hard against eachother and the hook straightened. all fish took a small tied PT. First hour couldnt figure out what to use until I finally caught one on a beadheaded pt which was my upper fly changed the lower fly to a non beadhead pt and it was epic after that. After landing a big fish I usually take a quick look at em and one of the big ones I was checking out had what looked to be a micromay with a foot or so of tippet hanging. the fish had a micromay in the corner and my pt in its nose. anyway if you want to claim your fly i got it but the hook was gonna rust out anytime. Always check fish for free tackle I know I've left a few flies hanging on those pigs.
Right on, Matt. The fishing has been pretty good this week, that is until today. You must have put all the fish down after yesterday. Fishing in the usual spots (you know the spots) I couldn't buy a fish. I tried just about everything. I could see them but couldn't get any takers, except for one. He hit the fly on the swing--slammed it!. I didn't know which fly the fish took until later when I looked at my #24 midge. The hook was straight. Nothing I could do about that.
I moved to another spot and found a couple of willing fish. I landed two typical hatchery fish and hooked a bigger fish that ran across the creek before leaving me empty-handed.
flygirl, it was nice meeting you today. I can't believe you haven't been fly fishing for very long. You're definitely getting things down. It's only a matter of time now before you start hammering those huge rainbows.
By the way, Matt, what color was that micromay?

Nice to meet you too JT and thanks for all the advice and those flies you gave me. I was humbled watching you catch those fish. Always nice to watch someone who knows their way around the creek. Didn't have any luck up near the dam, but you saved the day for me down at access 5...caught a pretty 13 incher with one of the little 22's you gave me.
Aranz I was in the creek, no I was pretty far above access #2. Where were you fishing? And it was a #20 pt. JT was that a 2487 #24, cus that what hook i was using when it bent and I really didnt think there was that much pressure on it. The micromay looks to be a really light light olive green maybe with some white or gray with a silver bead.
Packrat yeah I use barbless all the time. Most do but not all, it's their choice this time of year. the fly that was there looked to be barbless and was hooked on a hard spot it came out easy and wasnt gonna be there long anyway.
