i would like to hear your opinions on where to go. my most southern limit is silver fork of the american. and as far north as y'all please. also, some recommended guides would be nice.
Daara; For fly fishing go fish the Truckee, maybe the little truckee for some dry fly'n. The truckee is a great river where you can catch fish on a nymph, a streamer or a dry. Also all the creeks flowing into Tahoe are open and you can catch fish in all of them. Dry flies in the evening and the fast lil buggers will grab it and spit it before you know it. As for guides check out http://www.renoflyshop.com/ or just go into the the hardware store in truckee and they'll give you the current scoop on the fishing. Matt
Definitely try the Truckee. It has a history of being a tough river, but there are some really nice fish in there. I've only fished it once. I was able to catch a few using PT's, micro mays, and an olive bugger. I also tried green drake nymphs and golden stonefly nymphs with no luck. I also fished the Little Truckee. Those fish drove me nuts. You can see them cruising the pools, but they're super picky. Bring some 7X tippet and some small mayfly spinners for the evening spinner fall.
The Silver Fork can be fun if you want to catch a lot of fish. You can fish dries all day and land lots of small browns and rainbows. If you're lucky, you can even get into some bigger ones, too.

thanks. also i'm going up to the Yosemite high country. what flys should i use in those lakes? I went last year to but forgot a rod. Fortunatly, there are a hell of a lot of little fish!
I always carry buggers, damselfly nymphs, hare's ears, pt's, micro mays, fox poopahs, and small midge pupae. These don't usually let me down. If the fish are on the surface, you could try an ant, beetle, or hopper pattern. When fishing in the mountains I also use parachute adams, elk hair caddis, and griffith's gnats. Rarely will you have to throw an exact imitation.

I was thinking about backpacking into yosemite and fishing heth hetchy later this summer, not sure if the fishing is good there, dosent seem to be much info out there. Looks like you have to hike in so I would assume the fishing pressure is on the low side. Would love to here if ya fish it darra, Or if any has ever fished it.
I stopped by the Upper Truckee on my way back from fishing Carson Pass on Thursday evening, lots of small rainbows hitting dries but the mosquitoes were horrendous. Water's a lot lower than it was this time last year and the fish seem a bit smaller too.
A group of us went up to Rancheria Creek this last weekend. The hike starts at Hetch Hetchy dam and the trail to Rancheria is 7 to 8 miles. The trail goes around the reservoir and it is great. The weather was hot. Leave early and bring a water filter. The fishing was good, but the fish were small. I was just using an Adams parachute and had a fish on nearly every cast. The biggest fish was only about 8 inches, but they fight well. Bear canisters are required and can be rented at the gate.
howdy y'all. I packed into the high n' lonesome of the yosemite high country, to the area known as young lakes. My dad and i had ragged peak behind us, WSW, and coness peak to our right, SES. It was an amazing pack in, with beautiful country As soon as i got there, around 5:30 pm, i saw small 6-10 inchers rising. They were a mix of brookies and bows (way more brooks). First i had a dryfly(ant) at the end of a 5x 9ft leader. I had one strike. then i switched to my best friend in the high n' lonesome, the almighty elk hair caddis. a bunch of fish went for it, as there was a MASSIVE caddis hatch going. unfortunatly it took me a while to get used to dryflying, i usualy nymph fish. so, the next morning i cought 2 fish. then my dad and i were off to discover lakes 2 and 3. young lakes are a sucesion of 3 lakes. at the top lake,#3, there were no visible fish, but there were amazing views. also there were a bunch of awsome climbs my dad and i did. at #2 there were a few fish. then at #1, where we were camped, there were a ton of fish. finally, the lake emptied out into coness creek. on the moring of departure i sight casted to trout that were holding in a depresion that a small creek created in the lake. they hit that brown size 12-14 wooly hard, one after an other. i must have cought 7 fish. i'll try to get you guys the pics, but i was fishing by my self for the most part, so there aren't many pics. All in all it was a great trip.
Yosemite was awesome. Next time I go I will be armed with very small buggers. Ones with yellow tails and propeller heads tied on the front. Something that closely resembles the rooster tail my buddy Kevin was using.
