Hello All! I have recently gotten into fly tying and I wanted a few opinions on these scuds I have tied. I know they probably are not going to be productive on Putah but I am hoping to use them when I take a trip to Eastern Washington. Any suggestions. Thanks for you're help.
I dont tie my own fly's but those scuds look pretty good to me. I've hooked a few planters on a pink scud in putah. Were in eastern WA. you headed, I used to spend alot of time near Yakima, Unfortunitly I never had the chance to fish the east slope of the cascades, But did alot of fishing in the coastal rivers Awesome coho and chum salmon action up there. The fishing is so good up there compared to northern california....Good luck.
When you use a scud hook, wrap the body a little further down around the bend of the hook, gives it a longer more curved body. It's also a good idea to tie some on straight hooks like you did becuase when a scud swims it straightens out...but use a wider gap hook.
Very nice looking scuds indeed. I also favor pink and orange scuds. In many places where they molt or however you say it, they take on an orange or pink hue and the fish can't stay off 'em. I think of it sort of like fishing an emerger scud?
