Howdy from Texas guys, Rich reporting in. Texas is tough on a fly rod. I've managed to break two Sages bass fishing here. I'm tossing some really big poppers and keep hitting my rod. Biggest is about 9 lbs. I managed to land a 5 month job in Fairbanks Alaska though . If anyone is headed up that way look me up. I've got a free apartment just off the Chena river.
Alaska is GREAT guys! Where else can you work a twelve hour shift and still get in 7 hours of daylight fishing dry flys to arctic graying that gobble anything you toss to them. Fished the Gulkana for rainbows and salmon, neither went well. My partner and I landed 19 grayling between us. It's a little early for the kings this far up. I keep all informed. Did you guys have a wet spring ?
Hey rich, sounds pretty cool up there in Alaska. As far as a wet spring goes we had anything but. Everyone is saying the sierra rivers are about a month early as far as river levels goes, They are gonna be very low towards end of summer. Still not any good reports from the lower yuba lately.
Last year on July 4th, the big hole up from the Hwy 20 bridge produced some very nice summer steelies for me. All fish took big stimulators with no dropper. Maybe the same this year. We're going to chase the big rainbows this weekend. To get to any "good" trout fishing water, we haveto drive 8-10hrs. I'l update...
