Hey All,
Any advice on fishing lake Solano? My last Final Exam is next week and Im thinking of heading out and float tubing Lake Solano. I've never fished it before and Im not quite sure what to use. I hear there are some nice rainbows and smallmouth in it. Has anyone had any luck there? Should I even consider it right now? Any help would be great. Thanks!smile.gif

Summer is usually a good time to use a sinktip line with an olive woolly bugger.  The planters really go for those and there is always the occasional large brown to be caught as well.  If you have a canoe paddling up from the bridge to the island can be good.  You can also put in by the island and float tube down a ways and then walk along the road back to your car.  I also heard that the fishing can be good for trout and bass down near the dam.

The island I referred to is the one at access 5.  The lower tip of the island is the top of Solano lake.  If you drive up from the bridge over Solano about a mile you will reach this spot.  You can park along the road and walk down to the lake right where Putah empties into it.  You could float your tube down the the lake a ways and then hike back to your car, or as my friend Andan does, park down the road and walk up with your tube so you end up at your car.  Good luck.

Quick note on those wooly buggers, if you tie your own, use an olive body with grizzly hackle. Good luck!
