My friend Andan and I headed up to the Upper Sac Thursday afternoon and fished the evening and all day Friday. This was my third trip to the river and the most time I have spent there, and it was definitely time well spent. The flows are perfect at around 300 cfs and the water temps around 50 degrees.
We caught several dozen fish on both nymphs and dries. Most were in the 12 inch size range, with those taken on dries smaller, but we each managed one nice 17 inch rainbow. For those who haven't made the drive to Dunsmuir, the pictures below show what a beautiful river it is.
Andan Fighting a Nice One
A great way to start the morning!
It's tough to keep up with Andan, but I'm trying
If you do go, the 15 minute hike to Mossbrae Falls is worth the trip. We didn't catch any fish there, but the scenery was beautiful. I am hoping to make it back again in the next couple of weeks.
