We are traveling to the Napa area April 28-May 3.  We are looking to we a fly or two.  The info on this site has been very helpful.  Any additional info will be appreciated for our short tour.  I have been wondering what the average flow for this time of year will be and if Putah Creek will be wadeable.  Thanks for the info in advance.

This is a trial run to knock the rust off before a trip we are taking to Yellowstone in July.

If you are looking for wadable waters, try access #5.  It's the parking lot just up from Lake Solano.  There are numbered signs at the 5 access points.  If you are not aware of the New Zealand Mud Snail, you may want to do some research before fishing the creek.  There are tons of them in the lower reaches of the creek.  Before fishing another waterway you will need to disinfect your gear.  You can freeze your boots and waders overnight or soak them in a 50-50 solution of Formula 409 (industrial strength) and water.  Another option is to soak them in hot water (130 degrees) for 5 minutes.

If you're looking for flows on the creek, check the following sites:

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv/?site_no=11454000&agency_cd=USGS

http://cdec2.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/queryFx?PUT

I hope this answers your questions.  If you have any others, don't hesitate to ask.  There are many people here who would be glad to assist you.

Thanks JT. We will definitely disinfect before fishing elsewhere.

Greetings,
to all who read this, thank you for the info and tips. Just started flyfishing last summer and now i have two addictions (the other is homebrewing!). I too will be in Yellowstone for i will be working there from May to October. I'm working at the Gallatin District, which is where the Madison, Firehole, and part of the Gibbon is (and where i learned to flyfish). If you have been there before and know the good spots, awesome. But if you want some updated info, let me know. I plan to waste most of my free time fishing myself. By the way, i fished access #1 where the stream makes a sharp left turn (just above that harsh strech of whitewater) 3 days ago and hooked 4, landed 2. the two landed were about 16" I had a #16 prince nymph and a #18 black nymph(looks like a brassie, but its black with a little white). sorry, still learning my names.
