Weekend smallies
Permalink

Since I have a 3 day weekend coming up (man I love Cesar Chavez if only for that reason) and Putah is going ape with the flows, I am looking to target smallies.  Haven't done this since I fish the boundary waters 2 yrs ago, and without stellar success at the time.   I am debating between upper Putah and Cache Creek, any input as to which is fishing better?  I have fished for bucket mouths quite a bit but smallies are relatively new to me. Also, where is a good access pt on Cache Creek?  Have canoe, will travel.  biggrin. Good luck to ya'll this weekend.

Theres some decent smallmouth and largemouth bass in lower putah around winters, a float tube works great canoe probably would as well. I'd ike to try cache creek as well, But I'm not sure were I would start.

I floated a small section of cache creek today with my pontoon boat.  I was only out for a couple hours but I managed to land 2 smallmouth about 1lb each and a small bluegill.  The smallmouth bit wolly buggers and fought hard.  Around woodland the creek access is limited to highway bridges  and the banks are steep, muddy, and overgrown.  The best access is with a float tube or kickboat it would seem.  Lots of laydowns in the water so you might want to go weedless and prepare for some fun because there is a ton of water to cover & fish to catch.

I love smallmouth!!
