Hit the water around 7am today, water was very clear. Tried a red serendipity, flashback hares ear, black wd40, and prince nymph, alll with beadheads and sized 18-20 on 6x tippet. Did not see any insect activity, not a single hit, but lost all those flies due to snags in the trees or under the water. Fished until about 12, absolutely gorgeous day to be outside.
Although I didn't get into any fish, I did manage to meet and chat with a few people today, including Yukon Mike. Pleasure meeting you, and your advice was most appreciated. I'm still amazed at how small the flies need to be for Putah. Also met a guy by the name of Jimmy (I think...bad memory with names) from Hollister, who I'm not sure is on this forum...also great meeting you. Hope to see you guys on the water again This was only my 2nd time on Putah, and I have only fly fished in general a handful of times with limited success. It was comforting to hear to everyone I spoke with also had a rough time on the water today, so I can't blame my rookie skills entirely!
Welcome aboard Alan, I think you will find a great bunch of friendly fisherman here, with no problems sharing what is working and what is not. Hang around you could learn something. I know I sure have.
Welcome to the board, Azee. Don't get discouraged. This can be a tough fishery to learn on. But if you can catch fish here, you can bet that you'll able to catch them just about anywhere.

After we met, I hooked up with a nice rainbow about 20 inches, a record for me. The fly was a size 20 wd40 dead drifted on a 9' leader. It was a good day. I am glad you enjoyed the day and hope to see you out there agin soon.
I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now, and I agree that there is a lot of good info to be learned from everyone. It seems like I spent more time re-tying my flies after numerous snags and birds nests than fishing yesterday! :)
Mike - Nice job on that 20" rainbow! Sounds like the action picked up a little bit in the afternoon?
