Solano Lake, from the convenience store down to the small diversion dam looks bassy! If one has some type of floatation deviceI imagine you might have some fun. Can anyone provide some info on that body of water? Are there any restrictions? Thanks.
I've never seen any bass in the lake, but fishing for trout from a tube or boat can be great fun. It is planted in spring and summer and fishing streamers can be very productive, both up and downstream from the bridge. The water temps stay low even in summer since the water comes from the bottom of Berryessa.
I've never seen any bass in Lake Solano either, but I've seen pictures of them in Pardhesa's that were supposedly caught there. I have seen lots of carp and quite a few trout, though.

Solano lake looks very "bassy" but i'm sure it dose not contain bass. The creek below solano lake does indeed hold alot of largemouth, smallmouth, alot of panfish, and really big carp. I used to fish the area around winters alot and have takin largemouth up to about 8 lbs. and smallmouth to about 3 to 4 lbs, you need a float tube, and you gotta fish when it warms a bit spring and summer evenings and early morning works well, especially when the creek flows increase, this area is really an under rated fisherie. Not many people know that the putah river (before monticello damn was built) was the first place in the state of california were smallmouth bass were planted. I havent flyfished this area yet but I am gonna this year, I always did good with tradition bass lures, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, softplastics, jigs, etc. One other thing, in the warmer months there are these freakin huge spiders down there, so watch out, those things spin webs all over and really give me the creeps.
captain...I've heard that the waters below that damn leading down to Winters holds a variety of fish besides trout. However, are there public access areas that are maked? I understand that there is alot of "private" land fronting that stretch of water. Looks like I'll have to 'Sherlock Holms" this opportunity this spring
There is good access from the winters bridge down to the hwy 505 bridge, a float tube is a must, good access at the putah creek nature trail, remember if you access the creek at a public access place you can fish any part of the creek, the creek itself is not pvt property up to the high water mark. You'll see no litttering sighns, but no pvt property sighns in this area. Other spots were you can pull over and park are clearly marked pvt property, you cannot access theses spots from the road, I think its a bunch of crap with the pvt property along the creek, farmers rape the creek of water then dont even allow people to fish.
I can understand where the farmers are coming from. Just take a look at the stretch of Putah Creek that we fish. Would you want all of that trash on your land? A few bad eggs can ruin it for everybody else.

When the water's high in the summer, there's quite a bit of current in the lake. You can actually use the same set up that you use in the creek (nymph and indicator). A dry/dropper is a good bet in the mornings and evenings when fish are rising. I've also caught fish on olive damselfly nymphs. I know others have lots of luck with wooly buggers.
