Went out for a few hours today at around 10am. Started at #5, water looked good, nice and clear, also the weather was good with no wind but lots of clouds. Saw some rises in a deeper, slower pool downstream of a fast run. There were also a few baetis spinners and tons of water boatmen in the stills. Tried a parachute adams #18 with a #22 red zebra midge wut got nothing. Went to #3 at about 12:30, it began to rain lightly at about 1:30 and was still raining when I left. Hooked into one on a #16 birds nest with a #20 pt dropper. Not sure which one it hit but it was probly the pt. Fish was in the tailout of a pretty fast run right where the water begins to get slow&deep, but it jumped and spit in my eye. I left shortly after that. Seemed like the fish were in the deeper areas where there is a pretty good sized rapid above. Still workin on that first Putah monster, but every day I get closer! good luck guys Charlie

I fished later in the day on Wed., and the fishing was fairly good for this time of year. It is funny that you mention baetis spinners. I was at Access #XXXX and found that the fish were hitting spinners. Next time you go try a black or rust colored spinner below the parachute adams. The fish seem to be slamming size 18 to 20 spinners. I also saw what looked to be tricos in the mix. Anyways the black spinner size 20 worked best. It is easy to tie. Use a size 20 Tiemco 100 tie in a long dun tail and use black thread for the body. Tie in a spent wing of light dun z-lon and you're pretty much done. The fish were just below the surface, so I also used an indicator and a size 1 weight to catch some of the fish. The flows just dropped, so who knows where the fish will be this weekend.
