Did a little research and it appears the section of the upper sac. from box canyon dam down stream to scarlett way is open year round with artificials with 0 limit, Was wondering if anyone has ever fished this area, I may try to make it up there this weekend, Trout fishin in the snow, Sounds pretty cool to me. I assume access will be good as interstate 5 stays pretty clear. I would need to stay the night in dunsmuir, any info. on were may be a decent place to stay a night or two ? As always any info. is very greatly appreciated.

They started having this open a couple of years ago.  The Fly Shop in Redding or Ted Fay's in Dunsmuir would be able to provide current reports.  From what I have heard, things are pretty slow there in the winter.  Of course, it was completely blown out last winter.  Until the recent rain the flows there had been great this year, when they jumped from 300 to 10,000.  But if it stays dry they should drop back down.

I was up there in October. Did more bushwacking than catching fish. I think you need to find the right spots. I think the area below Dunsmuir is better than the Box Canyon, but I guess you can always prove me wrong
