Any advice for first visit to Putah creek?

Hoping to make it out tomorrow. Got a new Tenkara rod to try out, Iwana 12.  Any advice on where to go? What to avoid?

Really looking forward to just getting in the water and being outside for a bit.

I wrote this a few days ago. Hopefully it helps! Get down deep, use small nymphs, and avoid the overhanging trees.

That's the first time I have seen your blog. Very well done with a ton of info. To say impressive would be an understatement.

I enjoyed reading your article, Matt.  Thanks for writing it.

I noticed you're from my hometown, Yuba City.  I learned how to fish at Shanghai Bend.  I went there last weekend to catch a Shad but the flows were a bit high.  Hope to see you on the creek.

Glad people are enjoying the read and finding it useful. The shad are in but the flows are way too high. I was lucky enough to hook my first of the year at Shanghai when it was 5,000CFS but now its like five times that. It's pretty much like that all over at the moment which is a real bummer.
