New to PC, looking for advice

My brother and I will be fishing Putah Creek in late March.  I've fished the creek once before with Jordan Romney about 2 years ago.  We plan to fish on our own this trip.  We both fly fish quite a bit, and call the White and Little Red River our home waters here in Arkansas.  I'm looking for any advice as far as catching fish, but also staying on the right side of the law/ethics.  I'm aware the spawn has been on but by that time should be mostly wound down.  Of course we'll still keep an eye out for any redds.  We deal with the same issues on the Little Red at home, at Cow Shoals with regard to our wild brown population.  I'm not familiar with California regs, so any advice regarding setups would be welcome.  Our typical rig is a two fly rig with split shot above the point fly and an indicator, which is what I recall fishing with Jordan.  I saw where dropshotting may not be legal, and if there's any other techniques or specifics I'm all ears.  As far as flies I've studied the forum, and feel comfortable with the usual assortment of smaller 18 and less mayfly/caddis and even midge patterns.  Any specifics are welcomed, though I know we all have our secrets!  From what I remember the road runs the length of most of the creek, and we can just stop at the turn outs and hike in to the creek.  We didn't fish up by the dam, or in the resort property, mostly down below.  That would be my idea, but again if there are better ideas throw 'em at me.  Thank you in advance for any advice, and thanks for being such strong ambassadors for a neat little creek.  I wish we could have this kind of passion on the Little Red!

Bring your bass rod and hit the frog water between the runs,...

Spawn is done already. Flows will be higher. Fish are throughout the system. Get down to the fish with needed weights.

Word of caution. Don't fish the Resort property; you will be asked to leave or worse. They are strong supporters of our restoration programs and trespassing weakens that support. Lots of other water. If you are not aware, the entire reach was badly burned in July, many areas to a level of scorched earth. Fish and Wildlife closed the area along the south bank to prevent erosion. One consequence of the burn was opening bank access in many more areas, so I would explore the  fish accesses. We are expecting the return of stormy weather for the next 10 days. If that happens flows will likely remain where they are. We are still in a drought and Solano County Water Agency will keep flows low as long as they can. The current 120-150 cfs are not optimal at some sites, but make wading a lot easier.

Jordan has a 40 minute PC video that can be accessed at You Tube and possibly other websites. He talks extensively about rigs that get around the dropshot problem.

Good Luck

So from what I recall when I fished with Jordan we only accessed the river from the road on the east side.  Several turn outs and a parking lot on the lower end of the river above the lake.  That was my plan.  We did drive up and have a look near the resort, near the dam, but never fished it.  Was planning on staying below that area.  Am I barking up the right tree?

Yes, Access 5-1 are all on the highway side of the creek, on the  (North) Yolo County side. You've got it. You can park in any lot free-listed fees are not collected.
