Hi Folks,

A quick introduction...

No stranger to Putah... I fished there when I was stationed on Treasure Island in the late 80's through early 90's. Doesn't look like much has changed, but it seems to be a very popular spot now.   I remember fishing in the winter and rarely saw another angler during the week!

The reason for joining the forum is relocation to Woodland from Washington State just after the first of the year. Wanting to get the jump on tying the flies.  I can only imagine small, smaller, and smallest is still the game, eh (18-24)? Had some phenomenal days with size 20/22 midge larva patterns!  RS-2's WD-40's, etc...  If there is anything else I can get the jump on it would be greatly appreciated!

The gal and I were in Woodland during the fire last month..  So sad!  I hope for a speedy recovery.

There is family spread out in the Bay Area to Sacramento.  Looking forward to getting home after 20-plus years!

Welcome back. There are a few of us that live in Woodland and fish the Creek regularly. Would be great to hear some of your stories from that era. Let us know when you are settled.

Stories, eh? I don't think the fishing was any easier, but there were maybe a little more fish.

I don't recall pay parking, do remember quite a few places to pull over off the road and fish.

My favorite setup was a size 18 cream color BH midge and a size 22 pheasant tail for a dropper.

Best memories came from the lake. Couple of us would float tube it in the winter just upstream from the bridge down to the park. Doubt an angler could still do that.. There were some monsters in that frog water! The fish really liked pheasant tails in a size 16 or 18 in this area. So we would tie the 18 in 1st position and the 16 approx 18-inches off the bend. Drift downstream long the weed beds- hang on!

Last time I floated the lake, my tube brushed up against something and popped. I was about 25-feet from shore and struggled to make it back... Haven't been back in a tube since. However, the pontoon is a different story.

It is official- our last day in Washington is 30 January.. The only thing that may hold us back is getting the truck and boat sold before then.

We've made a couple trips down south to look at homes in Woodland, but there is a very remote chance at Chico now. The fishermen in me has my fingers crossed for Chico (don't tell her), but being the family guy, Woodland will be fine with me.

Been so pumped and excited I started a tying blog which will soon include trips... Hope this is ok to post, There is no advertising- just helping!
