Putah Creek Wildlife Area Closed to all public access
Permalink

As a result of the Wragg fire, the following was posted by CDFW this morning. FYI the Wildlife Area includes the South bank of PC from the Highway 128 bridge to just east of access 3. It is not clear at the moment if this closure includes the burned areas on the north bank/Yolo County side of the creek along 128. I will try to find out.

Putah Creek Wildlife Area Closed to All Public Access Due to Wragg Fire

The Putah Creek Wildlife Area in Solano County will be closed until further notice due to impacts from the Wragg Fire. The Wragg Fire has burned 8,051 acres in Napa, Solano and Yolo counties, including the entire Putah Creek Wildlife Area.

The closure affects all public uses including, but not limited to, hunting, fishing, hiking and nature viewing. The closure is intended to allow the landscape and wildlife to recover, minimize erosion, and ensure public safety. As a result of the fire, potential hazards such as loose rocks and falling tree branches exist in the area. CDFW will reassess the Putah Creek Wildlife Area in spring 2016 to determine if it is suitable for public access.

Putah Creek Wildlife Area is located in Solano County just east of Lake Berryessa.

For more information on the Wildlife Area, please visit https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Lands/Places-to-Visit/Putah-Creek-WA.

According to the CDFW it is Cal Fire that has closed the entire burn area for safety reasons to all public access until the fire is out and they change its status. So, stay tuned.

Can you still access the river on the north side aka highway side and fish the entire river from the 128 bridge downstream?

Here's the closure affecting the IDR

Southeast (Solano) side beginning at the bridge parking lot on down is closed. It is a citable offense to access this area and it will be posted with signs.

Yolo side between Access 1 to Access 4 is open. Access 5 sounds like it is under review: I would look for closure signs in parking lot at 5. For other Yolo-side sites, I would look for closure signs.

Use common sense in choosing your locations, be safe and treat the area gently.

Wish they had closed it entirely. Give those spawning fish a break this year.
