Putah Creek Trout fundraiser: tying flies to help the fishery
Permalink

Three years ago a team of forum members took part in a fly tying fundraiser for PCT. I am looking for a repeat of that effort to support the cause and someone willing to coordinate it. The plan calls for a dozen flies of each pattern and 12 different patterns total. The perfect result would be 12 different volunteers each tying one pattern. These do not need to be your hot secret go to patterns, but should be PC favorites or standards.

Think about it and lets see if we can get the ball rolling. Completion deadline is mid March 2013.

SK

I'll be the first to step up Steve.  Thanks for setting a deadline so this doesn't take months like the last one.  This is a great opportunity for those who have done this in the past and those who want to jump in for the first time.  It's always lots of fun.   I will wait and see what everyone else wants to tie before I decide.....

Hi Steve, I'd be glad help. I've got a midge pattern that has worked very well for me over my last few outings at Putah. Happy to donate a dozen for the fundraiser and some for you too! Viking

Thanks guys. A great start. C'mon all you other expert tyers! I'm no expert, but I'd like to contribute a Glossosoma caddis larva

So far we have 7 tiers. It is probably best to limit it to 12. Tie twelve flies and send them in! Due date will be January 31 2013.
I will send out pms to the tiers on where to send them.

Need five more tiers where are you Greg B, Matt R., Rich G, No Hackle, Emerger, Berryessie, Bernie...
Nice to see you back on the board JT

So far we have
Viking with a midge
SK 60 with a glossy caddis
Multitasker with ?
Otter soft hackle
Cole with a WD-40
JT with some of those famous JT Specials

I have chronic back problems so I can tie only one more complicated fly or two easy flies per day.  Thus, I would like to tie six PT's (the more complicated fly) and six Zebra Midges (the easy fly) to make up the 12 flies.  Or I can just put together a Putah Creek assortment of 12 flies from the flies I have already tied.  Let me know what you prefer.

OK we have 8
So far we have

JT with some of those famous JT Specials
Papa Oak with the Squirrel Tail Emergers
I think size 18, but if you have more hooks in size 20 then tie those
And No Hackle. With six pheasant tails and six zebras.

Thanks to all.
We just need 4 more tiers. It looks like a good Putah hatch!

I'm not sure how it would work, but what if we tie 13 flies.
Someone could figure out a fair way we could have the extra set go to
one of the 12 tiers?
Just a thought.

I think SK60 should get the set for all his incredible work for PCT.  Put me down for a set I will pay for them.

A PCT fly tying demonstration and social event is being planned for the Middle of March at the resort. I suggest we draw the name of one of the tyers out of a hat for the 13th set at the event. Also, if you are interested in tying at the event let me know and I will forward your info to Dave McCants who is heading up the event.
