I fished the creek again this morning.  The flows dropped another 10 CFS since yesterday.  They were already too low yesterday.  Yesterday they were at 55 CFS, and today they were 45 CFS.  Anyway, the hole that I found fish in yesterday was void of fish.  I moved to a slow-moving deeper hole and found...

I fished the creek this morning.  It started out really slow.  The creek was a little lower than it has been.  At the first spot I fished there was a nice hatch going on, but I only saw one fish.  I couldn't find any takers, so I moved on to greener pastures.  The next spot had a nice Baetis hatch as well....

I got out for a couple of hours Tuesday and today.  I caught several fish each time, but it does seem to be slower than last week.  There was a little rain this morning, but the water is still very clear. All but one fish was caught on a size 16 olive Mercer's Micromayfly.  My top fly (a BWO nymph) was ign...

Got out on the water today with my buddy around 10:30. Water was super low, making fishing tough. We hooked into a few fish that morning, I caught a couple 10-11 inchers that fell for a #18 black midge larva, and a 16" that ate a #20 Black Beadhead Olive Midge larva. My buddy caught his 3 on a "som...

Today i fished btween areas #4 and #5, at least 15 fish hooked and 9 landed, all between 14 and 16 inches with one going 17 inches, this was a really good feeling after going the last 3 trips without a single bite, all fish were caught in one specific run, they were stacked up like cord wood most of...

Some tips for people that don't like to fish in crowds.  Try fishing new areas each time you go out to the creek.  I have been fishing Putah for about five or six years now, and I still am finding new areas to fish the creek.  If you catch a fish or two from one spot, take a hike upstream or downstream to tr...

Got out to the Creek for the first time this Winter. Fish the AM and had the creek to myself. I've forgotten what a good time of the year it is. Being able to wade in areas that are to deep in the Summer is fun. AM temps in the 40's-50's, little breeze and bright sunshine. Fished above and below the bridge and d...

Three weeks ago I fished below the bridge and caught four nice fish, 14, 16, 17 and 21 inches in a couple of hours. On 18-20 zebra midges, 18-20 micro mayflies and a 14 PT. There were a lot of large fish swimming around and activity was high and other anglers were catching fish. Yesterday I went back and i...

I fished the creek on Saturday, the 20th.  I got there about noon and fished until about 4 pm.  There was a nice Baetis hatch, and the fish were rising all over the place.  I used a small mayfly, an egg, and a midge pupa.  At one point, I even tried a caddis pupa.  I hooked about 20 fish but only managed to la...

I fished the creek this morning with KHB.  The day started out nice with no clouds in site, but it was freezing cold.  The cold didn't bother me too much, though, because I was wearing LOTS of clothes.  Anyway, the fishing was good.  I hooked five and landed four--a 10"er,...

My father and I started fishing by the lower camp ground, below the bridge, around 9:00am. A river otter started cruising the area and eating crayfish on the rocks....and scaring fish. While the otter was munching away, a small bob cat jumped out of the woods to take the food away from the otte...

I fished the creek on Tuesday.  It was a really nice day with crowds at a minimum.  There was a decent hatch of BWOs in the early afternoon.  It was neat to see some of the monster fish actually rise to these tiny insects.  I hooked some really nice fish but none in the net.&nb...
