No New Posts This Weekend (Preview)
Is anyone going to make it out this weekend?  I need to fill my fly boxes, so I'll be tying most of the day.  I probably won't be able to get out there until next weekend.  But, at least I'll have flies to use then.

No New Posts Special Regulation Signs (Preview)
I received a reply from Roger Bloom at the DFG today.  Our request for authorization to post signs on the creek has been passed on to the right people.  Hopefully we will receive a quick response.  At least we might have signs posted before the end of this coming trout season.

No New Posts Bait Fishing Before the Season Opens (Preview)
It seems that all of us are seeing more and more bait fishermen on the creek before the season opens.  I ran into some last Thursday and JT and I did again on Friday.  I decided to call the CALTIP number at DFG today to see if they can do something about this problem.  Hopefully a warden will make a more regul...

No New Posts 4/15 WIND !!! (Preview)
Got to the creek at 8 a.m today, fished #5, started at the "no rental boat beyond" sign. Pretty much went completely around the island twice, hitting every good looking spot, not spending alot of time in each spot, Only one fish hooked on a #16 pheasant tail, lost it, was maybe 15 inches. The w...

No New Posts Float Tubing and Signs on the Creek (Preview)
JT  I thought I had to work on some other projects this weekend, but I can now put in some time tomorrow.   If anyone wants to meet and talk about signs tomorrow I will be at access 1 tomorrow at noon.  I plan to float above access 1.  If we can get some people together it would be fun to float from access 5 down...

The flows just went over 500 cfs this morning.  If you're out there fishing, be careful.  The flows are changing quickly and without warning.

No New Posts Need some Advice (Preview)
Hey guys, I was up at Putah this last weekend and the flows were pretty fast. Im somewhat new to flyfishing and was hoping for some advice on where would be a decent spot for a novice to easily fish on the creek w/o too much difficulty. Any help is appreciated.

No New Posts Salmon in Putah creek? (Preview)
My Buddy and i fished here a month ago right next to the dam in float tubes and cought a few raimbows, and a few nice hogs, and a salmon suprisingly. It was only a pound or so. I didn't know they were in the creek. Heres a few pictures...

I fished the creek today with a friend.  I was hoping to get him into some nice fish.  He managed to hook one--a big, beefy rainbow--on a #16 olive caddis pupa.  It got around a rock and got off.  Those fish are true escape artists.  I hooked two, landing one--a fat 17"er.  He took a #20 mayfly nymp...

No New Posts Glory Hole (Preview)
I drove in through Napa today and was looking to see how close the glory hole was to screwing up the fishing.  To my surprise it dropped today.  The flows jumped as a result.  I did manage to land a fish today, but the fishing was terrible.  The fish were blown around and will probably be confused until the...

No New Posts Web article on midge fishing (Preview)
Below is a URL for an article on fishing midge imitations, it was written for Montana waters but I found it applies very well to Putah, hopefully I'll have a chance to try a few new things this weekend though it looks like the flows will be driving a change in tactics.  Midges have been a bit of a mystery to m...

I had to get out to the creek again before I go back to school tomorrow. Putah kicked my butt today. Actually, the wind kicked my butt today. The wind was howling straight downstream the whole time I was there. To even think about getting a drag-free drift I had to nymph downstream. There were some midges...

I fished the creek for two hours this morning.  I really shouldn't have done it.  I have way too much homeweork to do, but I had a tough week at school and needed a break.  I grabbed my 3wt and headed out to the creek.  I usaully use my 5wt, but with the low flows and slow water, I figured it would be mor...

No New Posts Regular Season Size Limit (Preview)
I would like to propose for discussion placing a maximum size limit of 18” during the regular season.  All fish above 18” should be catch and release.  I almost cry when I see a nice fish on a stringer.  How do you feel?

While I was out looking around for the sign issue today, I fished for a couple of hours.  It was pretty cold and rainy.  Some midges started coming off the water about 10AM.  I hooked 3 fish, landing 2.  I really had to work for those fish, though.  They were obviously eating something a couple of feet bel...

Now that finals are over, I can get some more fishing in.  I made it out this morning for a couple of hours.  There were TONS of midges in the air and on the water when I got there.  The surface of the creek was full of emerging midge pupae and pupal shucks.  There were quite a few caddis coming off the wat...

No New Posts High Flows and Radioactive Waders (Preview)
I arrived at the river yesterday at 1.00pm to whitewater conditions at three of my best sites. There was a small BWO and caddis #18 hatch and some trout taking them subsurface at the bridge. I got lucky for about 3 seconds with a cripple on the surface and an explosive onetime only take. The rest of the day...

No New Posts White Spider-like Parasite (Preview)
Otter, I remember you mentioned something about the white parasites with big legs that attach themselves to the trout.  That was a couple of years ago on the old site.  Did you ever find out what they were?  Does anyone else know anything about them?  They are on a lot of fish.  Are they harmful?

I recently posted about how I was having problems tying smaller flyes on my leaders.  Obviously I am not the only one with eyes that are not what they use to be.  I checked out several of the suggestions.  A magnetic threader from Orvis, the cf system and needle threaders from the fabric store.  The nee...

No New Posts March 17th report (Preview)
Today was the first time out for this season, I fished from noon until sunset in areas above and below access 3.  Sadly I brought nothing to net but got tied into a pig, I got a good look at him before he put the hurt on my fly and straightened the hook.  That one would easily fall in the 20-22" range.  I l...

Hi Everyone, Hit the water around 7am today, water was very clear. Tried a red serendipity, flashback hares ear, black wd40, and prince nymph, alll with beadheads and sized 18-20 on 6x tippet.
